Connect Odoo to Cryptoworth

Connect Odoo so you can use your Odoo accounts when you prepare crypto journal entries in Cryptoworth. The connection itself does not post journal entries. You will map accounts and review your entries before you sync them.

Before you start

You need:

  • An Odoo database with Accounting enabled and a general journal for the company you will use.

  • An Odoo user who can read the chart of accounts and contacts, and create and post journal entries. Your Odoo administrator should check that user's access rights.

  • An Odoo API key for that user. Keep it private. Odoo shows the key only when it is created.

  • Your Odoo Instance URL, Database name, and the user's Username.

If you use Odoo Online, check that your plan includes external API access. Odoo says this is available on the Custom plan, not the One App Free or Standard plans. If you host Odoo yourself, make sure Cryptoworth can reach your Odoo server over HTTPS. Check Odoo's external API requirements.

1. Create an API key in Odoo

  1. Sign in to Odoo as the user who will connect to Cryptoworth.

  2. Open the user menu in the top-right corner and choose Preferences or My Profile.

  3. Open Account Security, then click New API Key. If you cannot see the option, ask your Odoo administrator to check your version and access rights.

  4. Give the key a name you will recognize, such as Cryptoworth integration. Click Generate Key.

  5. Copy the key and keep it somewhere secure. You will paste it into Cryptoworth in step 2. If you close the Odoo window before copying it, create a new key.

The Odoo images above are from Odoo's documentation. Your menu may look different in another Odoo version.

2. Connect Odoo in Cryptoworth

  1. Open your entity in Cryptoworth. Go to Integrations > Apps.

  2. Find Odoo and click Connect.

  3. Fill in the four fields in Connect to Odoo ERP:

Click Connect. If it fails, check the URL and database name first. Then confirm that the username matches the API key's user, the key is still active, and that Odoo can be reached from outside your network.

Field

Enter

Instance URL

Your Odoo address, such as https://mycompany.odoo.com. Do not add a trailing /.

Database

Your Odoo database name, such as mycompany. This is usually the instance name, but check with your Odoo administrator if you are unsure.

Username

The login of the Odoo user whose API key you created. This is often an email address.

API Key

The key you copied in step 1. This is not the user's password.

3. Prepare your accounts before posting

After the connection succeeds, confirm that you are using the right Odoo company if your database has more than one. Import or refresh your Odoo chart of accounts in Subledger > GL Sync > Chart of Accounts. Then map your Cryptoworth transactions to the Odoo accounts you want to use. Start with your default accounts, then add asset or connection mappings where needed.

Import your chart of accounts and set up GL account mapping explain those steps in detail.

Before your first Odoo sync, reconcile the transactions, run and review a cost basis calculation, and inspect the proposed journal entries. Sync a small, reviewed set first. Then open Accounting > Journal Entries in Odoo and check its date, reference, debit, credit, and company against Cryptoworth. Learn how journal syncing works.

What the connection does

Cryptoworth reads the Odoo accounts it needs for mapping and can use Odoo contacts for vendor or customer tagging. When you choose to sync reviewed transactions, it sends journal entries to Odoo. The journal entry includes a reference to the Cryptoworth transaction and balanced debit and credit lines. Vendor or customer tags kept in Cryptoworth are not currently written onto the Odoo journal entry.

The integration creates journal entries. It does not create Odoo bank payments or vendor bills. Review your mapping and the proposed entries before you post a period. If you need to reverse a synced entry, use Cryptoworth's rollback workflow and confirm the result in Odoo.
