A snapshot is a dated record of your portfolio balances and their value. Use it for a month-end review, an audit, or a treasury report.
Choose the right balance record
Record | How it is built | When to use it |
Daily snapshot | Captures balances from connected sources each day after you enable it | Keep a regular record of holdings |
Current snapshot | Captures balances when you use Snapshot Now | Record the current position for a review |
Historical snapshot | Reconstructs balances from transaction history up to a chosen date and time, using historical fair market value (FMV) and foreign exchange (FX) prices | Review a past position when the transaction history is complete |
Cost-basis calculation | Uses recorded transactions and your calculation settings to calculate inventory, cost basis, and gains or losses | Review tax and accounting results |
Daily snapshots start on the day you enable them. They do not backfill earlier daily records. If you enable them in November, you will not gain an October record captured from the connected sources. The separate Take Historical Snapshot option reconstructs a past position from transactions.
For current source balances, wallets use blockchain data and exchanges use their API data. A source balance does not explain what an asset cost. Keep the cost-basis calculation as part of your accounting review.
1. Enable daily snapshots
Open the entity you want to report on. Go to Settings > Snapshots.
Under Entity Snapshots, click Enable.
Daily capture starts from the day enabled. Set this up before the reporting date you need.
If you need DeFi positions in daily snapshots, click Enable DeFi snapshots too. Entity Snapshots must be enabled first.
Read the coverage notice. Enabling Entity Snapshots alone does not enable DeFi snapshots.
2. Set the daily cut-off
Go to Settings > End of Day Time.
Choose Pricing Time Zone, then enter the Hour and Minute in 24-hour format.
Use your reporting cut-off. For example, 23:59 means 11:59 p.m. at the selected UTC offset. Check the selected offset, even if the system detects a different time zone.
This setting also controls the closing-price time for assets. Agree on changes with your accounting team.
Click Save after changing the time settings. If the settings already match your policy, no change is needed.
3. Take a current snapshot
Go to Treasury > Snapshots.
Click Snapshot Now.
Enter a clear Snapshot Name, such as “Month-end holdings review”. Leave Take Historical Snapshot unchecked to capture the current position.
Click Take Snapshot to start the current capture.
Wait for processing to finish. Click Refresh to update the list, then find the saved row and check its status.
Wait until the row shows Completed before reviewing it. You will still need to check connection coverage in the detail view.
4. Find a saved snapshot
Open Date, set Start and End, then click Apply. Use Clear to remove the date limit.
Use Connection to choose the wallets or accounts you need. Check Legacy snapshots when looking for an older saved record.
If no records appear, clear the filters and check when daily capture was enabled. A filter finds saved records; it does not create one.
Click the saved snapshot row to open its details.
5. Review balances and coverage
In Overview, check the snapshot timestamp, time zone, and Status. Confirm that the expected connections were processed.
In this example, 4/6 connections processed means two connections are not included in the processed count. Review them before using the total as a complete entity balance. A Completed label alone does not confirm full coverage.
In Balance History, review each asset's Balance and Value. Click the arrow beside an asset to see its Source Type, Source, balance, and value.
Investigate missing prices or values. A dash is not evidence of a zero balance or zero value.
Open Connections. Check that the wallets and accounts you expect are present, then click the arrow beside a connection.
In the expanded connection, review the asset balances, price sources, and values. Use this view to trace an entity total back to the connection that holds the asset.
Open Issues and review the Issue Log.
Check this alongside the processed connection count. No issues found does not confirm that every expected connection was included. Resolve missing connections, missing prices, and unexplained differences before relying on the report.
Compare the snapshot with your calculation
Compare the same asset, connection, reporting time, and currency. Check quantities first, then prices and values.
A quantity difference can come from missing transaction history, different connection coverage, or DeFi positions.
A value difference can come from a different price, price source, or reporting time.
A historical snapshot depends on the transactions available when it is built.
Keep an explanation for material differences with your close or audit records.
6. Export and download the report
In the saved snapshot, click Export.
In Report Type, choose the level you need.
Report type | Use it to review |
Snapshot Report - (Asset Level) | Asset balances and values across the entity |
Snapshot Report - (Connection Balance Level) | Balances and values by connection |
Snapshot Report - (Connection Wallet Level) | Wallet details and their balance and valuation data |
Choose Snapshot Report - (Asset Level) for an asset summary.
Click Export and wait for the success message.
Click Exports page in the success message.
Find the new Snapshot Report entry. Confirm that its status is Success, then click the download icon on that row to save the CSV.
Check the downloaded file's reporting date and scope before sharing it. Keep it with the snapshot timestamp, time zone, reporting currency, connection coverage, and your review notes.
For month-end work, keep the snapshot report with your calculation and other close reports. Match their reporting dates and explain any differences.
7. Create a historical snapshot when needed
Use this option to reconstruct a past position from transaction history. It does not create an earlier daily record captured from the connected sources.
Open Snapshot Now and enter a name, as in section 3. Select Take Historical Snapshot, then set Snapshot Date and Snapshot Time. Check the Portfolio timezone shown in the form.
Cryptoworth uses transactions up to that date and time, then applies historical FMV and FX prices. Complete the transaction history before using this result for reporting.
Click Take Snapshot. Wait for processing, then review and export the saved record using sections 4 to 6.
Common questions
Can daily snapshots backfill dates before I enabled them?
No. Daily capture starts when enabled. The historical option reconstructs balances from transactions and historical prices, so it has a different basis from a daily source capture.
Why is Snapshot Now unavailable?
Check Settings > Snapshots and whether a snapshot is already processing. Use Refresh to check progress. If it remains unavailable, contact Support.
Why does the report show fewer connections than I expected?
Compare the processed count with your expected connections. Review Connections and Issues, and check whether DeFi snapshots were enabled when needed. Keep the report's scope clear until the missing coverage is resolved.
